Despite nationwide excitement surrounding smart city development, a lack of a unified regulatory framework has led to inconsistent urban planning strategies, devoid of a unified direction. The article's main goal is to emphasize the importance of establishing laws governing smart city development in Indonesia. Additionally, it aims to showcase innovative efforts undertaken by various groups to address this regulatory gap and promote inclusive smart city development. This study examines the challenges hindering Smart City development in Indonesia. By examining relevant academic literature and legal documents, the study analyzes the challenges stemming from the fragmented legal landscape. The analysis highlights how this lack of national coherence hinders national coherence, disrupts project implementation, and impedes program evaluation.. Overall, the article advocates for prioritizing a national legal framework that will foster a more stable environment, benefiting researchers, policymakers, and ultimately, the citizens who stand to gain from successful Smart City initiatives.
Amanda Amilia Atmaheni, Joko Adianto Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Built Environment and Scientific Research https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/22054 Thu, 05 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 STUDY ON THE IMPLEMENTATIONS OF SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE STRATEGIES IN INNOVATION PRECINCT DESIGN https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24778
Increasing carbon emissions and energy consumption due to the development of high-tech infrastructure, implementation of sustainable architecture strategies in innovation precincts arises as a solution to reduce environmental impacts. One of which raising this concern includes Melbourne Connect that has achieved numerous sustainability awards. This research explores two main questions: (1) What are the sustainable design strategies implemented at Melbourne Connect? and (2) How do these strategies contribute to sustainability? This research uses a qualitative approach and thematic analysis based on Sassi's Strategies for sustainable architecture theory, using data sources from literature study, video recording, and field observations. The results show that Melbourne Connect has implemented all components within Sassi's theory, represented by sustainable design strategies such as brownfield site utilization, porosity principle, natural elements, waste & rain water collection system, solar panel usage, and energy efficient façade design. These strategies are proven to not only reduce overall energy consumption by 40-50% compared to conventional buildings, but also create collaborative and healthy community. Therefore, Melbourne Connect can serve as an appropriate exemplar for the design of future sustainable innovation precincts.
Farah Vicka Maulida, Rizka Tiara Maharani Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Built Environment and Scientific Research https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24778 Wed, 18 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 A MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF HISTORICAL AREA, A CASE STUDY: KOWLOON AREA, HONG KONG https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24604
This study examines the morphological changes of Kowloon Area of Hong Kong by using a morphological component approach of land use, street patterns, and building patterns. The method of this study used the historical method, which includes four stages: heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results showed that the morphological growth of Kowloon Area showed significant growth and changes. The land use of Kowloon Area as a historical area has shown changes with an increase in the residential, trade, and service sectors, and industry, which is balanced to increasing the green area, on the other hand, a reduction in the agricultural and plantation sectors. The street pattern network of Kowloon Area of Hong Kong shows there are many pedestrian lane and areas for pedestrian and currently has a mixed pattern. The building’s types in Kowloon Area of Hong Kong have been regarded as a modern one which are contextual with the historical buildings from colonial era within the area.
Ari Widyati Purwantiasning, Saeful Bahri Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Built Environment and Scientific Research https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24604 Sun, 29 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Getting a Home for Urban Young Adult: A preliminary study of intergenerational housing transitions in Indonesia https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/22130
Each generation has its own challenges in the journey to get a home. This study aims to understand how the housing transition is experienced by three different generations (boomer, generation X, millennial, and generation Z) within parent-child relationship, especially during the young adult period and when entering the home ownership market in urban area in Indonesia. Using in-depth interviews, this research explores the housing transition stories of people who have a child-parent relationship (n=4), consisting of 2 men and 2 women in Indonesia. The findings from this study are that the life course in the form of entering marriage is the main driving factor in the housing transition in both generations. In the second generation, assistance in the form of motivation and financial assistance from parents plays a major role in their home transition. Individuals' housing preferences may also be factors that influence the way they choose a home when entering the home ownership market.
Annissa 'Ul Jannah, Joko Adianto Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Built Environment and Scientific Research https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/22130 Sun, 29 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Mapping Kindergarten Students' Behaviour towards Use of Learning Space https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24660
Sentra allow children to manipulate various objects, engage in role playing conversations with their friends, explore, interact physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively as well as other interesting varied activities. Sentra provide opportunities for children to play individually, in small or large groups and even classically. Children are allowed to choose activities that interest them and will eventually make children active and interactive learners. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method in the case of Al Azhar Kindergarten. The mapping results show that there is a tendency for students to use mattresses in carrying out activities. The lack of furniture makes students look for a comfortable position when doing activities. Space elements can create an atmosphere that suits the character of the child. The use of soft foam mattresses as a base with bright colour can provide a sense of security because it suits the character of active children.
Dian Nugraha, Muhammad Sega Sufia Purnama, Mukhamad Risa Diki Pratama Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Built Environment and Scientific Research https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24660 Sun, 29 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Analysis of Biophilic Architecture Concepts Application in the Kebun Pak Budi Edu-tourism Building https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24852
Modern urban development focuses on urban areas, but the principles of urban development should be implemented in urban development, ensuring that new urban objects can be developed. These principles include economic growth, environmental conditions, community support, and technology implementation. Urban areas based on education should be developed in urban areas, such as Purwosari, to provide a unique atmosphere. However, the concept of biofilic, based on space and facilities, is also important. The "Kebun Pak Budi" urban area in Purwosari aims to develop the potential of urban areas by utilizing existing facilities. Biofilic concepts can help maintain the conditions of use, such as reducing stress and reducing water pollution, through long-term interaction with the environment, education, and research. The application of biofilic in urban areas can lead to positive environmental benefits, such as natural ventilation and dynamic communication.
Rahmat Nur Musthafa Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Built Environment and Scientific Research https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/24852 Sun, 29 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Thermal Performance Evaluation and Its Effect on Visitor Comfort and Exhibits in Museum Bahari Jakarta https://jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/IJBESR/article/view/25422 This study evaluates the thermal performance in Museum Bahari, Jakarta, and its impact on visitor comfort and the stability of exhibits. Using both natural ventilation and air conditioning systems, temperature and humidity measurements were taken to assess thermal conditions. The results show that natural ventilation does not meet the standard comfort levels, with average temperatures reaching 29.7°C. Although air-conditioned rooms provided better control, the temperature still exceeded the comfort threshold. Visitor feedback indicated discomfort due to thermal instability. Recommendations include adjusting the opening strategies based on external thermal conditions.
