RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF ANTENATAL CARE WITH ANTENATAL CARE COMPLIANCE AMONG MOTHERS IN TELUKNAGA AND KEBON CAU VILLAGE, TANGERANG 2016

Abstract


Antenatal care is a health care that pregnant women receives from an obstetrician or a midwife to treat and prevent potential health problems throughout the course of the pregnancy while promoting healthy lifestyles that benefit both mother and child. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that in 2015 around 830 women died every day from problems in pregnancy and childbirth. Although antenatal care is important for improving the health of the mother and baby, many women do carry out four visits. Noncompliance of antenatal care visits may be contributing to maternal and child mortality rates. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude of antenatal care with antenatal care compliance among mothers in Teluknaga and Kebon Cau Village, Tangerang 2016. This type of research is an analytic study with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used is saturated sampling with 42 pregnant women nine months. Data analyzed using univariate and bivariate Chi Square test. Majority of respondents are low-educated (71.4%), lack of economic status (88.1%), short distance between home and health services (92.9%), have good knowledge (71.4%),  positive attitude towards antenatal care (66.7%), and adherence to antenatal care (78.6%). Based on Chi Square test, there is relationship between knowledge (p-value: 0.041) and attitude of antenatal care benefits (p-value: 0.019) with antenatal care compliance among mothers in Teluknaga and Kebon Cao Village, Tangerang. The need for communication, information, and education activities of antenatal care benefits continuously in order to increase antenatal care coverage in Teluknaga and Kebon Cao Village in particular and Tangerang in general.
