Non-Communicable Diseases and Modifiable Risk Factors of The Pos SehatMu Participants PCM/PCA Ciledug, Tangerang
Abstract
Background and Objectives. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a global health problem in modern lifestyles. Periodic health examinations are an screening method effectively. This study aims to identify the prevalence of NCDs and modifiable risk factors at Pos SehatMu PCM/PCA Ciledug, Tangerang. Method. Descriptive research with a time-series design was conducted from October 2023 to January 2024 using a total sampling technique for all Pos SehatMu participants. The analysis focuses on identifying NCD characteristics and intervened risk factors. Results. There are 199 participants, mostly elderly with female domination (75%). A high prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease was found. The main risk factors are overweight (54.8%), lack of physical activity (54.3%), high cholesterol (50.8%), low fruit and vegetable consumption (34.2%), high uric acid and blood sugar (31.7% and 16.6%), anxiety (15.6%), smoking (7.5%), and alcoholism (1%). Sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating were major contributors. Conclusion. Non-communicable diseases are related to sedentary lifestyles and modifiable risk factors. Health education, behavioral interventions, lifestyles modification, increasing vegetables and fruits consumption, are needed to reduce NCDs in the community. Further studies are needed to evaluate the association between modifying risk factors and NCD incidence.
