Aims and Scope

English Language in Focus (ELIF) is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality research in English Applied Linguistics and English Literature.

Publication Frequency

English Language in Focus (ELIF) is published biannually, with issues released in February and August each year.

Archiving

English Language in Focus (ELIF) ensures long-term preservation of published content through LOCKSS and PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).

Peer Review Process

All submissions to English Language in Focus (ELIF) are reviewed using a double-blind peer review process. Authors and reviewers remain anonymous to ensure impartiality.

Review Timeline

  • Initial Screening: Within 7 working days
  • Peer Review: Approximately 4–6 weeks
  • Decision & Revision: 1–3 weeks

Final decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on peer feedback. Feedback may also be shared with rejected authors for academic growth.

Plagiarism Policy

English Language in Focus (ELIF) applies a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism. Submissions must be originalunpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Content reuse requires citation and permission. Plagiarism Levels & Consequences

  • Minor: Small uncited parts — revision requested.
  • Intermediate: Substantial copying — rejection + 1-year ban.
  • Severe: Full section copying — rejection + 5-year ban.
  • Repeated/Extreme: Permanent blacklisting.

Self-plagiarism must be disclosed. The Editorial Board may reject or retract manuscripts if plagiarism is detected. 

Authors are fully responsible and must sign a Copyright Transfer Form.

Open Access Policy

English Language in Focus (ELIF) provides immediate open access to all published content. This supports the belief that freely accessible research enhances global knowledge sharing and innovation.

Articles in English Language in Focus (ELIF) are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license allows unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction provided the original source is credited. 

Publication Ethics

English Language in Focus (ELIF) upholds the highest standards of publication ethics. These guidelines are based on COPE principles and apply to authors, editors, and reviewers.

Duties of Authors

  • Reporting Standards: Provide accurate, original, and complete research with clear data presentation.
  • Data Access and Retention: Authors should be ready to submit raw data for review and retain it post-publication.
  • Originality and Plagiarism: Manuscripts must be original; all sources must be cited properly.
  • Multiple Submissions: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal is unethical.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: All referenced works must be properly acknowledged.
  • Authorship: Only those contributing significantly should be listed. All co-authors must approve the submission.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Disclose all financial or personal relationships that may affect the work.
  • Errors in Published Work: Authors must notify editors if significant errors are discovered after publication.
  • Hazards and Subjects: Clearly state any risks involving chemicals, procedures, or human/animal subjects.

Duties of Editors

  • Fair Evaluation: Evaluate submissions based on merit, without bias.
  • Confidentiality: Keep all manuscript information confidential.
  • Conflict of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished work for their own research.
  • Publication Decisions: Ensure publication decisions are guided by quality, ethics, and legal standards.
  • Peer Review Oversight: Organize fair peer reviews by qualified and impartial reviewers.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Editorial Contribution: Provide constructive feedback to help improve manuscripts.
  • Promptness: Inform the editor if a timely review is not possible.
  • Objectivity: Reviews must be fair, unbiased, and clearly reasoned.
  • Confidentiality: Treat manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Conflict of Interest: Avoid reviewing manuscripts with which there is a conflict of interest.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Identify uncited work and report any similarity to other publications.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

English Language in Focus (ELIF) applies a publication fee to support open-access dissemination and editorial processes. Authors are not charged for submission.

  • Submission Fee: IDR 0 – Authors are not required to pay any fee to submit an article.
  • Publication Fee: IDR 750,000 (approx. USD 50) – Payable only upon acceptance for publication.

This fee covers the costs of peer review, editing, DOI registration, archiving, and hosting. ELIF ensures that all accepted articles are freely accessible to readers worldwide.

Authors with limited funding may request a waiver by contacting the editorial office. Fee waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis.
