Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between students' epistemological beliefs and their academic performance in learning the System of Two Variable Linear Equations. Data was obtained through written tests on SPLDV material and a questionnaire measuring students' epistemological beliefs. Out of 70 students who filled out the questionnaire, only 34 students' responses were consistent and used for further analysis. The results of the study show that most of the epistemological belief variables, including beliefs about time, understanding, and usefulness, follow a normal distribution, although beliefs about steps and academic performance (The Value of the System of Two Variable Linear Equations) showed some deviations. Spearman’s correlation test revealed a significant relationship between epistemological beliefs, particularly beliefs about understanding, and academic performance. The findings suggest that students with more developed epistemological beliefs, especially in terms of understanding and usefulness, tend to perform better academically. This study recommends the importance of developing epistemological beliefs in mathematics learning to improve students' learning outcomes.
